After several people call, I'm in late position, and I've got my favourite A4 hand, A456 suited. This is the best A4 hand because of the variety of straights and the flush it can make, and for the fact that it doesn't necessarily need to make the absolute Nuts/Nuts to win, and can actually scoop with a third or second nut low, if you can raise an A2 out of the hand, or if there just aint one out there... and sometimes you catch a deuce anyway, and win. Notice how I said "oo i got somethin nice" and they still call lol.

This flop was almost as good as it gets - I mean, all I can ask more for is a club redraw, but thats greedy. I flopped the nuts, I have a good low, and I'm freerolling to a deuce. I dont care for getting overcalls and whatnot, I want the whole pot, and I want the maximum if I get half or better. I'm going to cap every street.

This card changes nothing. I am still holding the nuts with one card to come. Clearly, I must bet and raise. If they aint afraid, they should be!

Even though the board paired on the end, I have very little fear, especially because I have so much potential to scoop should anyone not have made a full house. I admit I may have been a bit reckless, but this was the perfect situation for A456 and I aint going to miss any bets. I sense that OTB has A2, perhaps with nothing perhaps with not much, but basically he can only have one very specific hand (A256) that beats mine for three quarters, and six very specific hands that scoop, and three of which if he holds them he is better than Jesus at miracles (A233, A244, A277 are obviously legitimate, whilst if I'm going to be scared of A23J, A24J, and A27J, although very reasonable holdings, I might as well hide under my bed every day in case the BOGEYMAN comes if I'm gonna be afraid of those) and I AINT playing scared poker!
I only got half the pot for this hand, but I am very happy with that, given that I would scoop a rather larger percentage of the time in the long run than I would lose the whole pot (would catch a deuce more often than lose to a full house or backdoor flush and A2). And thats the sort of thing we are aiming for in poker.
This hand shows that A4xx holdings are playable (but I recommend being very selective, looking for a five to go with or a suited ace at the very least), especially this one, and you just need the right flop before you go committing any more chips, and it just means that you might need to adopt a fit or fold strategy with this type of hand much more so than with A2xx or A3xx. Just picture what hand you want to make before the flop comes down, and if you dont make it, get out. Also try to play it in late position mostly, and with multiple players in the pot to improve the ROI for the hand.
Hope you enjoyed my post. _________________ its only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything |

nice hand, but I am a little confused: which half of the pot did you win? in some of your posts you leave out the conclusion and result and it would be nice to know. _________________ The title of my next book: "How my agent check-raised me". |

I won the high end, even though my opponent caught running jacks for high. He was betting and raising with the made low, which aint bad a strategy at this level, just not against me because it gets you quartered severely:D. I'm not sure what the calling station had, probably a bad low with a straight draw, or a set trying to fill up.
If that deuce came I probably would've won the whole thing, but its also possible that if an Ace fell I could've scooped as well. _________________ its only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything |
