I am not sure if I will be using the term correctly, so I apoligize in advance, but the amount that I have put aside in my poker account is around $400. What limits would people suggest playing with a bankroll of this size?
I have usually been playing the nickel/dime No limit games, but is that too conservative? I also play a lot of the $5 Sit n Go's and am not sure if I should move up or down from that amount either. Thanks to everyone in advance. _________________ G_Money77 |

God, how I hate this keyboard of my stepfather's!
Ok, start over.
Ok, start over AGAIN
I hate this damn kekyboard!
This subject has been brought up for years, and ATE has answered many times. But, ha ha, just so you don't have to go looking through archives, let's talk about it.
By the way, thanks for mentioning that you were not sure if bankroll is the right term. I guess it would be ANYWHERE ELSE but here! That's because the world doen'st care about the accuracy of it's conversation, but ATE does.
To mean, a "bankroll" means an amount of money that you are using TO MAKE A LIVING at anything that requires investing. This could be for an antique dealer, or a hold em player.
For me, in order to be a bankroll, it has to be enough to sustain yourself through periods of negative fluctuation, and not go broke. Moreover, the bankroll MUST, repeat MUST include LIVING expenses to cover same when you are LOSING, or at best: NOT winning.
This is something that I have seen NO ONE address (but me) EVER!
And is so critical, when trying to determine how much one needs for "their bankroll"
If you are NOT trying to make a living, then you can be much looser in what limits to play.
HOWEVER< take warning! THE MAIN REASON NOT, NOT NOT TO OVERPLAY YOUR "BANKROLL" IS NOT THE FEAR OF GOING BUST, IT IS THE SEVERE DANGER OF BECOMING ASSUSTOMED TO LARGE STAKES, TO THE EXCLUSION OF BEING ABLE TO EVER PLAY SMALLER AGAIN.
oK, I hope everyone reading that, takes heed.
So, if you have a job, or a spouse with a good one (ha ha, tee hee hee) or 26 10k long-term CD's (NOT the king you put into a machine)
Go ahead and play to YOUR SKILL level, as long as you have reasonable sense.
I would not play 25 max games, or higher than 1-2 LIMIT games, with your 400 dollars.
Certainly, if you KNOW the game well, you should be able to withstand some losses, and be able to withstand short-term luck, at these limits.
BUT
another thing about playing without like 100 max buy's or 1000 big bet's (in limit) is that you also HAVE to have the disclipline to BACK down in limits, if you lose more than half your smaller bankroll.j
So, go ahead and play 10 buck multies, 1-2 limit games, 25 max.
I'll assume that if you have read ATE for years now, that you certainly should be good enough for these games
If NOT, well keep askin' questions.
P.S. if you can NOT readily replace said small bankroll, that I would stick to 10 dollar maxd games, and .50-1.00 for limit games, and 5 buck MTT's

Great advice Adam and thanks for not making me dig back through the archives as I know you have discussed the topic before.
Based on your advice, I might try .5 - 1.oo limit and the $10 Single table tournys.
By the way, sorry about the keyboard issues. _________________ G_Money77 |
