I don't know if you have played this before - but in 20 years of poker you must have. If you have, my question relates to who is first to bet throughout the hand, how the person receiving an extra card upon receiving a four up must place that extra card, and also I would like to have the 'match pot' rule explained to me.
Firstly, as you would know if you've played stud baseball, nines and treys are wild. In most stud variants the high hand is first to bet from fourth street onwards. But since nines and threes represent ANY card, do all the players in the hand have to interpret who has the highest hand showing in conjunction with the nines and threes to determine whom is first to act? For example, there are three boards. One shows xxK9KJx, another shows xxA34Qx and the final one shows xx8886x. The first player has three Kings showing as his highest hand, the second player a pair of Aces, but the third player has three eights natural. Who would be first to act?
Another rule is that any player receiving a four faceup must receive an additional card and be a card ahead of players without a four showing. My question is this. Does the player receiving a four have to place his additional card face up, or does he keep his extra card facedown with his holecards?
Finally, there is a rule that states that a player at some point in the game upon a certain condition must match the size of the pot with his own chips. What is said condition? I suspect it is upon receiving a nine or trey.
Hopefully I can get this cleared up so we can play another interesting game in our homegame. The boys aren't too fond of limit O8 and laugh about me folding almost every hand I get when it is my choice in Dealer's Choice.
Lesson questions coming soon!

AAAARRRRGGGH!
I DONT KNOW.
Sure, I've played this varient before, but it was a long time ago, and I don't remember any of these rules.
Also, it would do no good if I did, as different Locals very often have different rules.
There are just too many of these "home variations" to even THINK of getting anyone started in asking questions about them.
And, to further complicate the situation, like I said there are different rules for different locals.
Thus my friend, it's up to YOU to decide what you want to do.
I am not an advocate of any "match the pot" rule, for ANY game or ANY reason.
This is a sure-fire way to totally KILL your live one's desire to play in YOUR game.
I've seen games, where anyone making a mistake (while dealing) results in THEM having to "pay the pot"
Again, all this will do, is suddenly get you a buntch of 20-year-olds, who now have "arthritius" and "could you deal for me please"
I am sure that there is a HOYLE book, that will give you the answers.
Now, I really don't like to lose face! So please, let's stick to
omaha, omaha hi hold em limit hold em spread limit hold em pot limit hold em no limit hold em, hi low split pineapple, crazy pineapple, lazy pineapple, stud five card stud, stud hi low, razz draw, lowball, triple draw lowball, 2-7, triple draw lowball A-5 Pot limit omaha8 No limit omaha8
Hi low draw, Jacks back.
Now, IF you know the rules of a game, and wish me to formulate proper tactics, that is one thing.
But, I'm not a machine; I can't remember every single variant of a game, and am now embarassed that I didn't.
I'll say it again: After leaving Alaska, I am now only the top genius on poker tactics, NOT on poker goings on.
Good thing this is not feudal Japan, or I would now have a sword in my gut
Regards,

Remember in the movie "Dances with Wolves" When they first meet
"He's right INTRODUCTIONS should be first.
When someone new pops up, we'all here like to know a bit about them.
There is a thread in the g eneral infrmation section for this.
Anyway, ATE is the strategy guy, not necessarily the know everything about every home game guy. Hope people's fantasy about me knowing EVERYTHING is not ruined.
Also, I really am at my best answering specific questons.
Suffice it to say, I can answer specific questions.
By the way, I will say that in this day and age of everyone knowing about hold em, and some knowing about omaha, that the "home game" varients may well be totally obselete. Modern folks are likely to just want to play "casino" poker.
Whenever a subject is not too common, I prefer to wait until someone NEEDS the information. If you start playing in a game that has this varient, I will be happy to address your issues at that time.
